UPR30: Denmark recommends Germany to ratify the ILO Indigenous and Tribal Peoples convention No. 169 and to expand the mandate of the German Institute for Human Rights

08.05.2018  16:19

Mr. President,

Denmark welcomes the delegation from the Federal Republic of Germany and thanks it for its presentation today.

Denmark commends the Federal Republic of Germany for the progress achieved towards strengthening its national human rights institutions: The Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency, the National Agency for the Prevention of Torture and the German Institute for Human Rights (DIMR).

Denmark recommends the government of Germany to expand the mandate of the German Institute for Human Rights (DIMR) to include the receipt of complaints of human rights violations.

Indigenous peoples are amongst the most marginalised populations around the world often facing discrimination and exploitative labour conditions violating their human rights. ILO convention 169 is an important tool in securing and strengthening international norms concerning the rights of indigenous peoples.

Denmark therefore recommends the Government to ratify the Indigenous and Tribal Peoples convention No. 169 of the International Labour Organisation.”

I thank you
