[Check against delivery]

Mr. President,

Denmark welcomes the delegation of Uruguay and thanks it for its presentation today.

Indigenous peoples are amongst the most marginalised populations around the world often facing discrimination and exploitative labour conditions violating their human rights. The Indigenous and Tribal Peoples convention No. 169 of the International Labour Organisation is an important tool in securing and strengthening international norms concerning the rights of indigenous peoples.

During its last UPR, Denmark positively noted that Uruguay accepted recommendations from other Member States to ratify ILO convention 169. However, Uruguay has yet to ratify the convention.

Therefore, Denmark recommends the Government to ratify the ILO convention no. 169 without further delay.

I thank you.
