Mr. President,

Denmark welcomes the delegation of Portugal and thanks it for its presentation today.

Denmark commends Portugal’s commitment to the protection of human rights, especially women’s rights. However, Denmark is concerned about the continuing reports of domestic violence, with the vast majority of victims being women.

Denmark recommends the Government to develop and fund preventive programs to combat domestic violence, especially gender-based violence, and to ensure stronger awareness of the issue among law enforcement and social services.

Denmark commends that Portugal in 2018 approved a National Strategy for Equality and Non-Discrimination, encompassing a Plan of Action for Equality between Women and Men. This will hopefully help address the problems that still persist, including regarding equal pay.

Denmark recommends the Government to ensure prompt, full, and effective implementation of the National Strategy for Equality and Non-Discrimination 2018-2030.

Denmark wishes Portugal a successful review.

Thank you.
