High Commissioner, Excellences, Ladies and Gentlemen
It is a pleasure to be with you all today to reconfirm our strong support for the Global Compact on Refugees.
With more than 84 million displaced globally, the need for solidarity, burden- and responsibility sharing are even bigger than 2 years ago. Protracted as well and new humanitarian and climate related crisis calls for our urgent action. We must improve our collective response, as also underlined in the recent indicator report.
The fundamental challenges in global displacement remain unsolved. Host countries are overburdened. Funding is too limited and inflexible. And refugees – not least women and girls - face severe risks when searching for safety. It demands our attention.
We must be better at delivering on the nexus approach. Ensure inclusive and ‘age, gender and diversity’ sensitive responses. We must find better and more creative solutions, including with the private sector. We must find durable solutions that leaves no one behind.
Two years ago, Denmark made numerous pledges in support of enhanced protection and better solutions – with a particular focus on addressing the needs of women and girls and the most vulnerable. Our pledges are under implementation or even fully implemented.
And we stand ready to do even more.
We have a record high humanitarian budget and we have just pledged our continued flexible multi-year support to UNHCR amounting to 510 million DKK annually. In addition, Denmark will increase its support to fragile states, migration and regions of origin with 3,5 billion DKK by 2025. Further in 2022, we will – with our partners - develop an innovative pilot for an inclusive and holistic refugee response. Additional 200 million DKK has been allocated for 2022.
High Commissioner, excellences, colleagues
Denmark stands ready to do its part. We look forward to engage even further with our partners to make the GRF in 2023 a success.
I thank you.
