Madam President,
I have the honor to deliver this statement on behalf of the core group of the resolution on “New and emerging digital technologies and human rights,” namely, Austria, Brazil, Denmark, Morocco, Singapore, and my own country, the Republic of Korea.
We would like to thank the Advisory Committee for presenting its report on new and emerging digital technologies and human rights. We are especially grateful to the Committee members for drafting this report in close consultation with the Member States, including the core group.
During the last session, the Council adopted Resolution 47/23, with the strong support of the Member States. Based on the Advisory Committee’s recommendations in the report, the resolution emphasizes the importance of addressing the broad spectrum of human rights implications of new technologies and of taking a holistic, inclusive, and multi-stakeholder approach. .
In this regard, in accordance with the resolution, the OHCHR is to convene two expert consultations in cooperation with various stakeholders including the Advisory Committee, with the aim of translating human rights norms into practical standards. We look forward to the expertise and valuable contributions of the Advisory Committee in this process.
In closing, we would like to reiterate our full commitment and support for the work of the Advisory Committee and encourage its continuous engagement with diverse stakeholders.
