Statement by Denmark

[Check against delivery]

Denmark aligns itself with the EU statement. In line with the EU statement, we are very concerned with the human rights situation in Afghanistan, Belarus, China, Egypt, Israel, and the occupied Palestinian territory, Russia, Turkey and Venezuela.
The rules-based international order is under pressure. We live in a time of shifting power balances, local and regional conflicts and unprovoked attacks on sovereign nations, with overwhelming global effects on the enjoyment of human rights as a result, not least for women and girls. The poorest and those in vulnerable situations are hit the hardest.
A renewed commitment to the ideas, institutions and treaties that constitute the world order is required. It must be a commitment to the United Nations, to its Charter and to the Universal declaration of Human Rights.
Strengthening of multilateralism, respect for human rights and accountability is the only durable response. This includes promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all and respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples.
We insist that peace, justice, equality and the rule of law are essential elements in the prevention of human rights violations and abuses.
I thank you.
