Intervention by Denmark
[Check against delivery]

Mister President,

We condemn in the strongest possible terms Russia’s continued full-scale illegal invasion of Ukraine. We are deeply disturbed by Russia’s abductions of civilians, including children as well as the authorities’ increased domestic repression.

We strongly condemn the systematic, unlawful deprivation of life and arbitrary deprivation of liberty by Belarusian authorities and express our deepest concern over their alleged involvement in the deportations of children from Ukraine to Russia and Belarus.

We remain very concerned over human rights in China, including the OHCHR reported serious violations in Xinjiang, the Hong Kong trials over people exercising fundamental freedoms, and the dire human rights situation in Tibet. We reiterate our call on China to work with the UN and call on the High Commissioner to continue addressing the matter.

We are deeply concerned about the increasing violence in the oPt and Israel. We strongly oppose Israel’s illegal settlements, firmly condemn settler violence and call for accountability. We call on the Palestinian Authority to ensure respect for human rights in areas under its control.

On Iran, we are deeply concerned about the dire human rights situation. We call on Iran to put a halt on executions, release all arbitrarily detained and respect the human rights of all Iranians, including women and girls.

We are deeply concerned with the worsening human rights situation in Afghanistan. We strongly condemn the Taliban regime’s particular efforts to erase women and girls from Afghan society.

We call for the release of arbitrarily detained persons in Bahrain, including Mr. Al-Khawaja, without further delay.

While recognizing reforms made, we remain concerned about the human rights situation in Saudi Arabia and reiterate our strong opposition to the use of death penalty.

We fully align with the EU statement.

Thank you.
