Mr./Mdm. President,

Denmark welcomes the delegation of Lithuania and thanks it for its presentation.

We welcome the legislative measures adopted to combat gender-based violence but find that further efforts are needed.

We are concerned about the protection of LGBTI persons from discrimination and the lack of legal recognition of same sex couples.

Denmark recommends Lithuania to:

1. Strengthen the legal framework for the protection of women against violence including by  ratifying  the Istanbul Convention.

2. Eliminate discrimination of the LGBTI community, including by amending the Law on Equal Treatment to also prohibit discrimination on the basis of gender identity, and by adopting legislation recognizing registered same sex partnership.

Denmark wishes Lithuania a successful review.

I thank you.
