UPR41: Denmark gives UPR recommendations to Indonesia

Universal Periodic Review, 41st session
Human Rights Council

UPR of Indonesia, 9th November 2022
Intervention by Denmark

[Check against delivery]

Mr. President,

Denmark warmly welcomes Indonesia’s delegation.

Denmark commends Indonesia’s efforts to prevent discriminatory and intolerant local laws and by-laws.

Denmark recommends that Indonesia amends or revokes local laws and decrees that discriminate against women and girls.

Denmark has noted the absence of a specific law on indigenous peoples´ rights and that indigenous people are increasingly losing their indigenous territories and ancestral domain.

Denmark recommends that Indonesia recognizes and protects indigenous peoples´ rights to their customary lands and resources, including through adoption of mechanisms enabling such protection.

Finally, as in 2012 and 2017, Denmark recommends that Indonesia ratifies the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture.

We wish Indonesia a successful review.

I thank you.
