UPR46: Denmark gives UPR recommendations to Eritrea

Mr. President,
Denmark welcomes the delegation of Eritrea and thanks it for its presentation.
Denmark acknowledges Eritrea’s engagement with the UPR process, however we regret that the vast majority of recommendations from the UN human rights mechanisms remain unimplemented.
Moreover, we continue to call on Eritrea to fully cooperate with the UN system, including the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Eritrea.
Denmark recommends Eritrea to:
1. Repeal proclamation no. 145/2005, which directly hinders the operations of non-governmental organisations, to ensure full compliance with its international human rights obligations, including Articles 19 and 22 of the ICCPR.
2. Adopt legislation criminalizing all forms of sexual- and gender-based violence, including marital rape.
3. Ratify OPCAT.
Denmark wishes Eritrea a successful review.
