Interactive dialogue with the Fact-Finding Mission in Venezuela
Intervention by Denmark

Madame President,

Denmark aligns with the statement made by the EU and thanks the fact-finding mission for its valuable ongoing investigative work.

In the past year, we have seen no progress in Venezuela. Widespread and systematic attacks and human rights violations directed against the civilian population continue.

The authorities must comply with their international human rights obligations. Those responsible for the systematic use of torture and arbitrary killings must be held accountable, and further violations prevented.

Denmark calls for the guarantee of all political and civil rights, for the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners, and for the freedom and safety of all political opponents, in particular representatives of the opposition parties elected to the National Assembly of 2015.

Mdm Valiñas,

In closing, we would like to ask if you could elaborate on the extent to which the human rights violations, including arbitrary killings and the systematic use of torture, continue to amount to crimes against humanity as assessed in the fact-finding report.
