HRC43: Denmark remains deeply concerned by human rights violations in the conflict-affected parts of Ukraine

UN Human Rights Council
43rd session
Interactive dialogue on the High Commissioner’s update on Ukraine
Intervention by Denmark

Thank you Madam President,
Denmark aligns itself with the EU statement.
We welcome this opportunity to discuss the important observations by the High Commissioner on the human rights situation in Ukraine.
We remain deeply concerned by human rights violations in the conflict-affected parts of Ukraine as documented in OHCHR’s 29th report. We reiterate our unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and denounce the illegal annexation of the Crimean peninsula by Russia. All pending cases of human rights violations must be thoroughly investigated and those responsible brought to justice. We repeat our call for the full and unimpeded access for international human rights organizations throughout the entire territory of Ukraine.
We deeply regret the use of COVID-19 as pretext to restrict movements into the areas not controlled by the Ukrainian government, as well as the continued ceasefire violations.
Only the full implementation of the Minsk agreements can bring an end to the conflict.
High Commissioner, what is the outlook for improving the human rights situation along the contact line?
Thank you.
