Mdm. President,

Denmark welcomes the delegation of Liberia and thanks it for its presentation.

We commend Liberia on its new 2020-2022 national roadmap to fight sexual and gender-based violence, including child, early and forced marriage, rape, and female genital mutilation.

However as FGM affects more than half of Liberian women and girls, we regret the removal of the section on prohibiting FGM from the Domestic Violence Act of 2019 before it was passed into law.

For these reasons, Denmark recommends the Government to enact legislation prohibiting all forms of Female Genital Mutilation.

We remain concerned by the prevalence of prolonged pre-trial detention as well as reported overcrowded and poor prison facilities.

Denmark recommends the Government to establish a National Preventive Mechanism in line with the OPCAT.

Denmark wishes Liberia a successful review.

I thank you.
