Statement by Denmark

Denmark welcomes the delegation of Estonia.

We commend the establishment and accreditation of a national human rights institution.

We also commend Estonia for ratifying the Istanbul Convention. However, we note with concern the increase in gender-based violence against women.

Denmark recommends the Government to take effective measures to encourage reporting of violence against women to law enforcement authorities and to ensure the safety of women who come forward.

Ensuring comprehensive anti-discrimination is of key importance.

Denmark recommends the Government to amend the Equal Treatment Act to ensure that it prohibits discrimination, including on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, also in areas not related to working life.

Denmark wishes Estonia a successful review.
