Madame President,
Denmark aligns itself with the EU statement. We reiterate the call on Myanmar to resume cooperation with the Special Rapporteur.
Denmark is deeply concerned by the persistent lack of accountability and reports of continued grave violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, especially in Rakhine and Chin. The difficult situation faced by IDPs and the use of sexual and gender-based violence is of particular concern. The military and other conflicting parties must stop these violations and guarantee protection of all civilians.

We urge Myanmar to pursue accountability through credible independent national and international criminal justice mechanisms, and to fully implement the recommendations of the Rakhine Advisory Commission to enable a dignified, safe and voluntary return of the Rohingya.

We call on Myanmar to ensure inclusive, free, fair and credible elections. Denmark is concerned by the severe restrictions on freedom of expression, media and assembly in parts of Myanmar.

Mr. Andrews, ‘hate speech’ and incitement to violence on Facebook continues to be a challenge. What actions would you recommend to counter this?
Thank you
