UPR23: Denmark recommends Saint Kitts and Nevis to ratify the UN Convention against Torture.

Human Rights Council
UPR 23rd Session
Recommendations from Denmark to Saint Kitts and Nevis
November 2015

Mr. President,

Denmark welcomes the delegation of Saint Kitts and Nevis and thanks it for its presentation today.

We would like to commend Saint Kitts and Nevis for its constructive engagement in the UPR process and for having demonstrated progress in the protection and promotion of human rights since its last review.

During its first Universal Periodic Review, Saint Kitts and Nevis took note of recommendations to ratify the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment.

Denmark still holds the strong hope that Saint Kitts and Nevis will join the 158 current State Parties to this Convention which truly deserves to be universally ratified.

Therefore, Denmark recommends the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis to ratify the Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment.

In this context, we highly welcome the engagement of Saint Kitts and Nevis in the recent seminar in Costa Rica organized by the Convention against Torture Initiative, and hope that the initiative - which works through government to government exchange and cooperation – can be useful to the Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis in advancing on this issue if deemed helpful.

Thank you, Mr. President.
