Mdm. President,

Denmark welcomes the delegation of Panama and thanks it for its presentation today.

We commend the progress made since its last UPR on several human rights issues, including women’s rights and anti-trafficking.

We furthermore note the adoption of the 2018 National Plan for the Comprehensive Development of Indigenous Peoples. We remain, however, concerned with the inadequate protection of indigenous people’s territories and their limited inclusion in the decision-making processes.

Denmark recommends the Government to ratify the ILO Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Convention (no. 169).

We additionally stress the need to protect and promote human rights for all, including the LGBTI-community.

Denmark recommends the Government to include in its legislation an explicit prohibition of discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity.

We wish Panama a successful review.

I thank you.
