Thank you Madam President,
Denmark aligns itself with the EU statement.
We thank the Special Rapporteur for her presentation and regret that the Government of Myanmar refuses to collaborate.
We note that the Independent Commission of Enquiry in its report acknowledges the atrocities committed, but we regret the limited scope of the report. We urge the Government to make public in its entirety the final report and to ensure full implementation of all recommendations made by the Rakhine Advisory Commission.
Denmark remains deeply concerned by the grave human rights violations by Myanmar’s security forces in Rakhine, Kachin, Shan and Karen states and elsewhere.
We note the order by the ICJ. We reiterate our call on the Government to protect the rights of the Rohingyas and other minorities and to ensure accountability for all crimes committed in line with international principles.
We are concerned by the potential spread of hate speech and disinformation in the upcoming election and call on the Government and relevant stakeholders to take action to combat incitement to hatred and violence online.
Would the Special Rapporteur share her views on how the Council and its members can best support the implementation of the provisional measures set forth by the ICJ?
Thank you.
