UPR of Honduras,
Intervention by Denmark

[Check against delivery]

Mdm. President,

Denmark welcomes the delegation of Honduras and thanks it for its presentation.

We commend Honduras for its ongoing efforts to protect human rights, including the establishment of a national Ministry of Human Rights.

We are, however, concerned with the inadequate protection of indigenous peoples’ rights relating to their territories and inclusion in the decision-making processes.

Denmark recommend the Government to provide adequate resources to the Office of the Special Prosecutor for Ethnic and Cultural Heritage and the Directorate of Indigenous and Afro-Honduran Peoples with a view to ensure the rights of indigenous peoples.

Protecting women and girls against all forms of discrimination is crucial to advance on human rights.

Denmark therefore recommends the Government to ratify the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.

Denmark wishes Honduras a successful review.

I thank you.
