HRC Special Session on Ukraine: Denmark remains deeply concerned about the impact of the Russian aggression against Ukraine on food security

UN Human Rights Council, 34th special session
On the deteriorating human rights situation in Ukraine stemming from the Russian aggression
Statement by Denmark
Delivered by Permanent Representative Morten Jespersen

Mr. President,
Denmark aligns itself with the statement by the EU.
We reiterate our condemnation in the strongest possible terms of the unlawful Russian aggression against Ukraine. Every day, we hear news of new horrific crimes committed by the Russian forces, notably from liberated cities such as Bucha, Irpin and Borodyanka. We are appalled by the use of cluster-ammunition and indiscriminate targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure, destroying whole cities. As reported by the OHCHR, crimes involve summary executions, torture and other ill-treatment, arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and sexual and gender-based violence and may amount to war crimes.
We remain deeply concerned about the impact of the Russian aggression on food security and the right to food, affecting in particular developing countries.

We call upon Russia to immediately end its violence against civilians and civilian infrastructure and urge the full and immediate withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine.
Holding perpetrators to account is important for preventing future atrocities, for upholding the international rules-based order, and a precondition for future peace and reconciliation. We must insist on achieving accountability and justice for victims.
Thank you.
