HRC47: Denmark remains deeply concerned by the human rights situation in Eastern Ukraine and in illegally annexed Crimea

UN Human Rights Council 47th session
Interactive Dialogue on the High Commissioner’s oral update on the human rights situation in Ukraine
9 July 2021
Intervention by Denmark

Denmark aligns itself with the statement made by the EU.
Denmark remains deeply concerned by the human rights situation in Eastern Ukraine and in illegally annexed Crimea, where human rights violations are widespread and include arbitrary and illegal detentions, torture and ill-treatment by law enforcement officials. Denmark calls for accountability for the perpetrators and justice for the victims.
Only the full implementation of the Minsk agreement can solve the conflict and allow due respect for human rights. Russia has a special responsibility in this regard.
We support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and denounce the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia, which has led to serious human rights violations. We call for the free and unhindered access of international human rights observers and monitors throughout Ukraine.

Madame High Commissioner, could you please elaborate on what more can be done to ensure access for OHCHR to Crimea?
Thank you.
