HRC50: Denmark reiterates its strong support for all investigations into possible crimes against humanity in Ukraine
Human Rights Council
50th session
Item 2
16 June 2022
Interactive dialogue with the High Commissioner for Human Rights concerning the situation in Mariupol/Ukraine
Statement by Denmark
Mr. President,
Denmark aligns itself with the statement by the European Union.
Denmark stands in full solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. We reiterate our condemnation in the strongest possible terms of Russia’s blatant act of aggression against Ukraine.
In the wake of this act of aggression, we continue to see heartbreaking images of adults and children being injured and killed and the destruction of civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. We must send a clear signal: Those responsible for these acts will be held accountable.
To this end, we strongly support all investigations into possible crimes against humanity as well as violations and abuses of international humanitarian law and human rights during the war in Mariupol and across Ukraine, including those by the International Criminal Court and the independent Commission of Inquiry, amongst others.
Madame High Commissioner, what more can the Human Rights Council do to ensure that human rights violations and abuses committed in the wake of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine are investigated and the perpetrators held to account?
