United Nations Human Rights Council
52nd session
General Debate on item 2
8 March 2023
Intervention by Denmark
[Check against delivery]
Mr. President, allow me first to fully align with the statement made by the EU.
Denmark condemns in the strongest possible terms the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine by The Russian Federation, and its indiscriminate attacks on innocent civilians and civilian infrastructure. We also urge The Russian Federation to ensure the full enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms in Russia and call on the Russian Federation to cooperate fully with the new Special Rapporteur.
We reiterate our serious concern over human rights violations in Xinjiang. We are also disturbed by the recent UN assessment on separation and forced assimilation of Tibetan children. We urge China to ensure justice and accountability and implement recommendations of the UN. We call on the Council to stay seized of these matters.
Denmark is deeply concerned about the deterioration of the human rights situation in Mali and Burkina Faso and the increase in attacks against civilians. Denmark calls on all parties to respect the human rights of civilians.
Denmark urges all parties to the conflicts in Libya and Yemen to fully uphold their human rights and humanitarian law obligations. We are concerned by the continued failure to implement a lasting truce in Yemen.
Thank you.
