Intervention by Denmark
[Check against delivery]

Mr. President, allow me first to fully align with the statement made by the EU.

Mr. High Commissioner, in a time where the rules-based international order is under pressure, where the role and universality of human rights is questioned, the work of your Office is more important than ever. It holds a leading role and responsibility in the UN system for the promotion and protection of human rights. Denmark is a fervent supporter of your work and independence. You can count on our continuous support to fulfil your mandate to promote the principles, values and human rights upon which our society rests.

Mr. High Commissioner, we want to thank your Office for your continued commitment to promote and protect women and girls’ rights, including their sexual and reproductive health and rights, and the rights of LGBT+ persons. In the coming weeks, we will negotiate resolutions on issues such as child, early and forced marriage and violence against women and girls. Issues that – unfortunately – continue to require our full attention. Rest assured that Denmark will do its part to support the core groups behind these initiatives in getting their resolutions safely to harbour.
Thank you.
