Mr. President,
I am pleased to deliver this statement on behalf of Chile, Fiji, Ghana, Indonesia, Morocco, and my own country, Denmark, the Core States leading the Convention against Torture Initiative. CTI is committed to supporting the ratification and implementation of the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

As a unique joint collaboration led by States, for States, CTI supports countries throughout their entire UNCAT journeys, – including via support for national consultations, providing confidential guidance, guiding ratification processes, and providing support for implementation. Since our launch in 2014, I am pleased to report that 20 new States have become Party to the Convention, bringing the total number to 174.
Key to our success has been the power of State-to-State exchanges towards advancing UNCAT ratification. The UPR has been a vital mechanism in this regard. In the first three cycles of the UPR, States delivered over 2,600 recommendations to ratify UNCAT, and more than 7,000 recommendations related to torture. It is noteworthy that 95% of the States that have ratified since 2014 have received recommendations to do so.
As a State led Initiative, we also note the importance of support and technical assistance to help States realise their accepted UPR recommendations, and we encourage further provision of such support from recommending States.  CTI stands ready to support States in their UNCAT ratification and implementation journey.
I thank you.
