Universal Periodic Review, 39th session
Human Rights Council
UPR of the Hellenic Republic, 1st of November 2021
Intervention by Denmark
[Check against delivery]
Denmark welcomes the delegation of Greece and commends it for the ratification of the Istanbul Convention. However, we remain concerned about the prevalence of sexual- and gender-based violence.
Therefore, Denmark recommends the Government to ensure universal access to high-quality services and access to justice for victims and survivors of sexual- and gender-based violence.
We commend measures taken to reduce overcrowding in prisons and detention facilities, but are concerned that it remains a challenge.
Denmark recommends the Government to bring its prison and detention conditions fully in line with international human rights norms and standards, including the Nelson Mandela Rules.
Denmark wishes Greece a successful review.
I thank you.
