UPR41: Denmark gives UPR recommendations to Poland
Universal Periodic Review, 41th session
Human Rights Council
UPR of Poland, 15 November 2022
Intervention by Denmark
[Check against delivery]
Mr. President,
Denmark welcomes the delegation of Poland and thanks it for its presentation.
We wish to commend the unprecedented efforts and enormous hospitality showed by the government of Poland and the Polish people in welcoming Ukrainians refugees.
However, we have concerns regarding the implementation of the Istanbul Convention and we regrettably note the further deterioration of the LBGT+ community’s equal rights and freedoms.
Denmark recommends Poland to:
1. Ensure the full implementation of the Istanbul Convention and withdrawal from the Constitutional Court of the motion for verification of the Convention’s constitutionality.
2. Amend its penal code and anti-discrimination legislation in order to ensure full protection against hate crimes, hate speech and discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity.
Denmark wishes Poland a successful review.
I thank you.
