UPR43: Denmark gives UPR-recommendations to United Arab Emirates

Mr. President,
Denmark welcomes the delegation from the UAE and thanks it for the presentation.
We commend the enactment of laws that protect individuals against domestic violence. However, we remain concerned with continued examples of discrimination based on gender, inter alia in matters of marriage, divorce, custody, inheritance as well as employment.
Also, we regret to see that OPCAT remains to be ratified.
Denmark recommends the UAE to:
1) Withdraw its reservations to CEDAW article 2.
2) Reform the set of immigration and labour laws that constitute the Kafala system and ensure that policies and measures protecting foreign workers, including women migrant workers, are fully implemented.
3) Ratify OPCAT.
We wish the UAE a successful review.
