Policy advisor on global health at the Permanent Mission of Denmark to the UN in Geneva

The Permanent Mission of Denmark to the UN in Geneva is strengthening its global health team to respond to the increased national and international focus on the global health agenda. As our new policy advisor (full time) you will work closely with other staff members and  relevant Danish authorities, especially the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 
The policy advisor will be employed on a three-year contract from 1 May 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter. 

Main tasks:
Your primary task as our new policy advisor is to contribute to a successful Danish membership of the WHO Executive Board 2021-2024 at a very important time in multilateral global health cooperation. 
You will be involved in a high number of global technical health issues focusing on advancing Danish interests, in particular in relation to WHO governing bodies, including through EU and Nordic cooperation and dialog with global partners, as well as high-level engagement, especially the annual World Health Assembly.
You will have independent tasks and work closely with the minister counsellor for global health as part of the health team responsible for Denmark’s relations with the World Health Organisation (WHO), the UN Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and The Global Fund (GFATM).
You will also have tasks related to the mission’s human rights, humanitarian and trade teams to ensure that health issues are handled in accordance with Danish priorities when raised in other multilateral settings (e.g. WTO, ILO, Human Rights Council, UNHCR etc.).
 

Qualifications:
We are looking for someone with appropriate theoretical knowledge of and experience with global health issues, the UN system, as well as of the Danish central administration. 
You have a strong command of Danish and English, spoken and written. Good command of French is an advantage. 
You are good at working and solving tasks independently, however, we will put particular emphasis on your ability to contribute to a true spirit of teamwork and information sharing within the mission and with relevant authorities in Denmark. 
We expect flexibility and strong analytical skills as well as excellent written and oral communication, intercultural competence, networking and negotiation skills,

Terms and conditions of employment:
You will be employed as local staff and according to the Mission’s rules and policies. The salary will be determined based on relevant qualifications and experience.
